Our topic this term is called 'Animal Crackers' based around animals and pets.  We will begin by reading the story 'Noah’s Ark’ and will be looking to see if we can identify and name the animals in the story. We will be using the large wooden blocks in the outside area to make our very own Noah’s Ark as well as practising our pencil control as we create beautiful rainbows.

We will also be looking at what makes a good pet.  Our indoor role play area will be a ‘Vet’s’ and outside there will be the opportunity for the children to be jungle explorers!  Our small world play will also be based around animal themes.

During Physical Development and Expressive Art and Design we will be learning how to move safely as we move our bodies like different animals to the music. In Literacy we will be enjoying the story 'Walking through the Jungle' and creating sound effects for the story.  In Mathematics we will be thinking about capacity as we explore our water tray.

We are looking forward to exploring the Wild Garden to find signs of springtime and will be planting our own seeds too.

During our final half term, we will be listening to the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and building the Giant's castle using the wooden blocks. In Maths we will be sorting socks, deciding which will belong to the Giant and which belong to Jack. We will also be moving to the music as we grow like a beanstalk and learn a song about a little bean.

During our Physical Development we will be using the tweezers to carefully move the beans into the plant pots and will be enjoying using our hands to create our very own beanstalk for Expressive Arts and Design.

Our 'Garden Centre' role play area will give the children opportunity to plant seeds and explore the different textures. The small world tray will be a minibeast investigation area when we read the stories of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and 'What the Ladybird Heard'. We will be tasting the foods the very hungry caterpillar ate and creating minibeasts using the play dough.
