The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School

Our topic this term is called 'Animal Crackers' based around animals and pets.  We will begin by reading the story ‘Dear Zoo’ and will be looking to see if we can identify and name the animals in the story. We will be using the large wooden blocks in the outside area to create different sized crates for the animals to hide in as well as looking at what makes a good pet and pets we have at home. In Literacy we will also be enjoying the stories ‘Animal Actions’ and ‘Time for Bed Fred.’ 

Pets will be introduced to our home corner and outside there will be the opportunity for the children to be farmers.  Our small world play will be Noah’s Ark and we will also explore rainbow colours using paint and pipettes.

During Physical Development and Expressive Art and Design we will be learning how to move safely as we move our bodies like different animals to music as well as practicing ball and balancing skills. In Mathematics we will be thinking about capacity as we explore our water tray.

We are looking forward to exploring the Wild Garden to find signs of springtime and will be planting our own seeds too.

Our topic this term is called 'Living and Growing'. During our final half term, we will be listening to the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and building the Giant's castle using the wooden blocks. In Maths we will be sorting socks, deciding which will belong to the Giant and which belong to Jack. We will also be moving to music as we grow like a beanstalk and learn a song about a little bean.

During our Physical Development we will be using the tweezers to carefully move the beans in to plant pots and will be enjoying using our hands to create our very own beanstalk for Expressive Arts and Design.

Outside, the small world will be a mini beast investigation area when we read the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.’  We will also be tasting foods the very hungry caterpillar ate and creating minibeasts using play dough. 

As we get closer to the summer holiday we will look at the story 'Spot Goes on Holiday' and learn about the seaside.
