CYGNETS

SUMMER TERM 1, 2026

This half term our learning journey is centred around the exciting theme of food. Our youngest children will explore fruits, vegetables, shopping and tasting experiences through high‑quality stories and hands‑on activities. Adults will model new vocabulary, encourage communication, support independence, and nurture confidence through every interaction.

📚 Core Texts We Will Be Exploring

  • Baby Goes to Market by Atinuke & Angela Brooksbank
  • Oliver’s Vegetables by Vivian French
  • Kew: Lift and Look – Fruit and Vegetables by Tracy Cottingham
  • Cook in a Book series by Maya Gartner (e.g., Pizza!)

These engaging books help children learn about shops, food, families, healthy eating, and the joy of cooking together.

During our first week we will introduce the children to The Teddy Bears Picnic. They will be able to join teddies in the small world area and create a delicious picnic for them.

Our outdoor role play area will be a supermarket and in the mud kitchen the children can make their own pizzas!

We are looking forward to exploring the Wild Garden to find signs of springtime and will be planting our own seeds and plants.

SUMMER TERM 2, 2026

Our final theme of the year is The Seaside! The outdoor role play area will become a beach hut, where the children will develop their social and communication skills through pretend play. Our small world beach will also further storytelling and fine motor skills. We will spend some time exploring seaside sounds, ribbon dancing to sea music as well as creating wave pictures and printing with seashells.

As the weather gets warmer we look forward to hunting  for mini beasts, especially in the Wild Garden.

We will also be supporting our older Cygnet children in thinking about the transition to the main nursery in September.
