CYGNETS
AUTUMN TERM 1, 2026
We would like to welcome all the new children to the Cygnets nursery as they begin their learning journey at The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School.
Our topic for this half term is 'Marvellous Me' and at the beginning of term we will be focusing on learning our nursery routine and rules. We will be encouraging the children to join in with activities in both family groups and whole group sessions. During our learning we will be thinking about special people, our bodies, senses and emotions.
Our role play area will be a kitchen, allowing the children to represent familiar experiences from home in their play and engage in make believe by pretending.
In the outdoor area, our role play shed will be all about nursery rhymes and containing instruments for the children to explore and sing along to with. The outdoor small world will be a jungle with wild animals.
As Autumn begins we will be visiting the Wild Garden to look for the changing colours of the leaves.
AUTUMN TERM 2, 2026
Our main topic title this half term is ‘Traditional Tales’ and we will explore the story of The Three Little Pigs as well other tales which will support our learning in English and also in Maths.
We will begin by thinking about Bonfire Night. We will create firework pictures using paint in the art area as well as dancing with ribbons and building bonfires using different sized sticks as part of our mathematical development.
We will continue learning about about Autumn through songs and exploring and sorting Autumn treasures such as pine cones and conkers.
As Christmas approaches we will learn some Christmas songs as well as making decorations to hang on the Christmas tree. We will also be practising our physical skills as we use scissors to cut out pictures of toys that we would like from Father Christmas.
