SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES (SEND)

SEND - Committed to Inclusion

The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School is committed to offering an inclusive curriculum and equal opportunities to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils, whatever their needs and abilities.

Our provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities reflects that commitment. We aim to develop an ethos of care, empathy and understanding, where every child reaches their potential, regardless of ability level, race, gender or cultural background.  We are committed to each child's personal well-being and academic success.

For more information on the support we can offer children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, click on Warrington's Local Offer.

Also, see the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy, the Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy and the SEND Information Report on the Statutory Information and Policies page.

In response to the Equality Act 2010 the school prepared an Accessibility Plan which was successfully carried out over a three year period. Our school is accessible to people with disabilities. We have children accessing all necessary areas of the school site and our full provision. For more information, see the Equality Policy and Accessibility Plan on the Statutory Information and Policies page.

The Special Education Needs and Disability Code of Practice (0-25 Years)

SEND primary areas

National guidelines state that all schools must adhere to the ‘Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice 0-25 Years' (January 2015) when deciding how best to support children with SEND.  The Code of Practice supports schools and parents in the process of identifying and catering for SEND children and young people from birth to 25 years of age.

The Code identifies four primary areas of SEND:

  • Cognition and learning difficulties,
  • Social, emotional and/or mental health needs,
  • Communication and interaction needs,
  • Sensory and/or physical needs.

At The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School we follow a step-by-step graduated model of action and intervention to support children with SEND. We ensure that all pupils in our school are treated with respect and have full access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

Here is a leaflet which explains our SEND processes:

Warrington Parent and Carers Forum

Warrington Parents & Carers Forum is a voluntary group of enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced parents, carers, grandparents and family members of children and young people aged of 0-25 years with disabilities and additional needs. Click the Warrington Parents and Carers logo to see their details.

Their main objective is to listen to families and young people in Warrington to find out what is really important to them. By finding out what is really important to families and the support they need, the Forum can see what is working well and what needs improving and we can then work with the organisations that plan and provide services in Warrington to make the best use of the resources available to improve your lives.

Warrington's SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)

Most children will move through pre-school, school and college without any major problems, but some children and young people, may have difficulties in learning. If you have concerns or worries we may be able to help.

We can explain:

  • how the education system works,
  • what early education providers, schools and colleges can do to help your child/young person,
  • what local authorities and other services can do to help your child/young person,
  • your rights and your child/young persons rights.

We work in partnership with parents, schools, colleges, the local authority and other service providers.
