Admission Variation

The Office of the Schools Adjudicator has approved the proposed variation to the admission arrangements determined by Warrington Borough Council for The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School for September 2024.

In September 2024 the published admission number for The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School will be reduced from 90 to 60.

Admission to School

In line with LA Policy, the School has one intake into Reception classes in the September of each year.  The school academic year runs from 1st September to 31st August and children are admitted in the September prior to their fifth birthday.   From September 2024 our official admission limit will be 60.

We hold our annual Open Morning/Open Evening specifically for parents of school (and nursery) children due to be admitted in the next intake in the Autumn Term each year.  Alternatively, parents considering sending their child to our School are welcome to make an appointment to look around.

Upon confirmation of a school place for the start of the academic year, parents are invited to an Intake Meeting in the Summer Term to discuss their child’s transition.  Here, parents have the opportunity to meet the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and Reception teaching and support staff.  Children have the opportunity to visit their new class and meet their new teacher and classmates during the Summer Term before they are due to start school, the children then start in September.

Admission to Nursery (3 and 4 year olds)

Nursery children are admitted in the term after their third birthday, subject to availability of places. Visits are held for nursery children to spend some time in their new setting with a parent/carer.  We then organise individual admission arrangements for each child.  Again, further details are provided upon confirmation of a place.

We offer nursery provision for three and four year olds.  The Government currently provide thirty hours a week to all children whose parents are each working a minimum of sixteen hours and earn under £100,000 p.a.  Children who do not fall into this category are entitled to fifteen hours a week.  The eligibility in both instances commences the term after the child's third birthday.  For fifteen hours, this is accessed as three hours each morning, Monday to Friday, for those children starting school in the next immediate academic year.  For those younger children starting school four or more terms later, then we offer three hours each afternoon, Monday to Friday.  Children entitled to thirty hours are in nursery from 8.45am to 3.00pm and remain in the same care with the same staff throughout the day including lunch and snack time.  You may provide a packed lunch or a hot school meal can be provided for an additional charge.  Details of current availability, and more information, is available from the School Office.

Admission to Nursery (2 year olds)

We also offer nursery provision for children from the age of two. Places are allocated in age order. Children come to Nursery for 8.45am and can spend all day with us until 3.00pm and can also access our link club with their specialist setting for pre-school children. Children remain in the same care with the same staff throughout the day including lunch and snack time.  You can provide a packed lunch or we can provide a hot school meal.  You will need to supply nappies for your child, if necessary.  We also work very closely with you in regard to potty training if that is required.  Sessions in our Cygnets setting are available from one or two sessions of three hours each week, to full time care.  You can request either morning or afternoon sessions or a combination of the two.  Some parents may be able to access funding for this initiative and should contact the Free Early Years Entitlement Section at Warrington Borough Council or contact the school.  We accept all nursery vouchers and for details of current charges and availability, or for more information, please contact the school.
