CYGNETS
AUTUMN TERM 1, 2025
We would like to welcome all the new children to the Cygnets nursery as they begin their learning journey at The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School.
Our topic for this half term is 'Marvellous Me' and at the beginning of term we will be focusing on learning our nursery routine and rules. We will be encouraging the children to join in with activities in both family groups and whole group sessions. Small world play and role play areas will also be linked to our topic.
Our role play area will be a kitchen, allowing the children to represent familiar experiences from home in their play and engage in make believe by pretending. We will be exploring my body, my emotions and my special people.
As Autumn begins we will be visiting the Wild Garden to look for the changing colours of the leaves.
AUTUMN TERM 2, 2025
Our main topic title this half term is ‘Traditional Tales’ and we will explore lots of stories which will support our learning in English, but also in Maths. We will also begin by thinking about Bonfire Night. We will create firework pictures using paint in the art area and sort fireworks and stars into different categories as part of our mathematical development.
As part of our topic we will be learning about nocturnal animals and reading the book ‘Owl Babies’. We will be making our own hedgehogs from play dough and hunting for nocturnal animals hidden around our nursery environment. The children will also have the opportunity to spend time exploring with torches. This will lead us into learning about the story, ‘Whatever Next!’
As Christmas approaches we will learn some Christmas songs as well as making decorations to hang on the Christmas tree. We will also be practising our physical skills as we use scissors to cut out pictures of toys that we would like from Father Christmas.
