PAN 2023 - ARTWORK
Our school is a founder member of PAN (Primary Arts Network). Each year a number of Warrington schools collaborate on a joint project based on an agreed theme and the children’s work is shared through an exhibition and a performance. This enables us to participate in exciting cross-curricular work and showcase work within the arts. This year’s theme is ‘Same but Different’ to address all areas of equality and diversity in an exciting and relevant way. Each school has been allocated a book to cover the different elements of the theme. Our book is 'Giraffes Can’t Dance' by Giles Andreae (equality/individuality).
This is the same theme as in 2020, but both the exhibition and the performance were unable to take place due to Covid-19, and the children were unable to showcase their work at that time.
Nursery
After reading 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae, the children in nursery created the animal characters using 2D shapes. We printed the shapes and used different strokes with the paintbrushes to finish our animals!
Reception
Reception have enjoyed looking at the book 'Giraffes Can't Dance' and have been celebrating our similarities and differences. We have drawn sone lovely, colourful giraffes in the warm savannah wodlans of Africa. We have used our best drawing skills and used oil pastels to create bright colours. We also used red, blue and golden colours of Brusho for our backgrounds. Which giraffe is your favourite?
Year 1
In Year 1 we based our giraffe artwork on the Pop Art of Andy Warhol.
Year 2
Year 2 have been creating their own stories inspired by the story 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae. In the story the giraffe shows that he can dance in his own individual and unique way. In the children's own stories the animal and skill has changed resulting in some wonderful stories highlighting individuality.... everyone is the same but different!
We have also been looking at the artist Henri Rousseau and how he camouflaged animals in a jungle setting. We thought about some of the animals illustrated in 'Giraffe's Can't Dance' and hid them in our jungle scene. Can you see them all?
Using clay we sculpted our own jungle leaves to spell out the title 'Difference'. In the workshop we found out about cutting clay using a template, glazing the clay with coloured slip, rolling clay to produce the letters and imprinting into the clay to give texture to our leaves.
