EQUALITY

The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School Policy Statement on Equality and Community Cohesion

We are fully committed to promoting the principles of equality and diversity. We ensure that everyone is treated equally, irrespective of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or pregnancy and maternity. Therefore we:-

  • ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect,
  • make sure that our school is a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment for everyone,
  • recognise that people have different needs, understanding that treating people equally does not always involve treating them all exactly the same,
  • recognise that for some children extra support is needed to help them to achieve and be successful,
  • encourage people from different groups to be involved in our decisions, for example through talking to children and parents/carers,
  • ensure that no-one experiences harassment, less favourable treatment or discrimination because of their age; any disability they may have; their ethnicity, colour or national origin; their gender; their gender identity or reassignment; their marital or civil partnership status; being pregnant or having recently had a baby; their religion or beliefs; their sexual identity and orientation.

Furthermore, we welcome our general duties under the Equality Act 2010 to eliminate discrimination.

We recognise the importance of narrowing gaps in achievement which can affect many groups including:

  • different cultural and ethnic backgrounds,
  • disadvantaged pupils who qualify for Pupil Premium funding,
  • special educational needs and disability,
  • gender,
  • autumn and summer born.

In addition to this statement, we also have a school policy on equality.

The Equality Act 2010 requires us to publish information that demonstrates that we have due regard for the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010,
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it,
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

Our Equality Policy and Accessibility Plan can be found in the School Statutory Policies section on the Statutory Information and Policies page, where you can find the information held by the school and how you are able to access this, together with our current action plan.
